A Manifesto: A Vision for the Future of Education

The Educational Institution That Develops Human Beings

The world is preparing to use artificial intelligence to replace the teacher, and in time to hollow out the school itself. We propose the opposite — a school in which every child is accompanied, every day, by intelligence devoted entirely to developing them. Not a replacement for the teacher. A replacement for the replacement model.

The Choice Before Education

Artificial intelligence is arriving in education whether we are ready or not, and it arrives carrying a particular intention. The dominant instinct of the age is replacement — to use AI to do what people do, more cheaply, until the people are no longer needed. Applied to education, that instinct leads somewhere specific and, we believe, deeply mistaken: AI that replaces the teacher on front after front, and in time erodes the very purpose of the school and the university as human institutions.

It is not difficult to see how it happens. An AI can already explain most of the curriculum. It can mark, assess, and generate endless material. The temptation, in a world short of teachers and money, will be to conclude that the machine can simply do the teacher's job — and then to ask why we need the classroom, the campus, the institution at all. That road ends with children raised by screens, education stripped of its humanity, and a generation that has been informed by machines but developed by no one.

If we do nothing, the replacement model will not stop at industry. It will come for the classroom. The question is not whether AI enters education — it already has. The question is whether it enters to replace our humanity, or to develop it.

We refuse the replacement model. But refusal is not enough. You cannot defeat a powerful idea with objection; you defeat it with a better idea. So we put a stake in the ground and propose an alternative — a complete model for what education can become when AI is used not to replace human beings, but to develop them. We call it, simply, the school that develops human beings.

The Core Idea

At the heart of our model is a single reversal. In the replacement model, AI stands in place of the human. In our model, AI stands beside the human — devoted to their growth, the human as leader.

The principle in one sentence:

Every child remains in a classroom, with a teacher — and is additionally accompanied, every day, by their own personal development partners: intelligent agents that know the curriculum, come to know the child, and help that child both master their subjects and grow as a human being.

The teacher is not removed. The school is not hollowed out. Instead, every child gains something no education system in history has ever been able to give them: genuinely personal, daily, one-on-one development — in their subjects and in their character — at their own pace, alongside the human community of the classroom. The machine does not replace the teacher. It does for every child what no teacher, however gifted, could ever do for thirty or more children at once.

This is the real purpose of artificial intelligence, revealed at last in the place it matters most: not to replace the human being at the front of the room, but to develop every human being in it.

The Model — Seven Pillars

The model addresses education from every angle at once — the child, the teacher, the school's leadership, and the home — because a child is developed by all of them together.

  1. 1Every child, a subject partner in every subject

Alongside the teacher and the classroom, each child is accompanied by their own personal development partner for their subjects — mathematics, science, and in time every subject. It knows the curriculum. It comes to know the child. It moves at the child's pace — patient where they struggle, stretching where they soar — and it never tires, never judges, and never overlooks the quiet learner who will not raise a hand. It does not replace the teacher; it gives every child the personal tutor only the fortunate have ever had.

  1. 2Every child, an AIPOWER partner to lead the AI era

Each child also receives their AIPOWER partner — preparing them not merely to use AI, but to lead it: to understand it, to use it with integrity, and never to surrender their own thinking to it. A generation that will live its whole life alongside AI must be raised to command it as capable, grounded human beings. This is how.

  1. 3Every agent grows the 8 Human Powers

Every partner does two things at once. It develops the child in their subject — and, woven invisibly through every interaction, it develops the human powers on which a successful life is built: Agency, Accountability, Moral Judgement, Commitment, Relationship, Faith, Hope, and Heart — purpose and love. So a child does not only pass mathematics. A child grows, matures, and becomes wise. They master the subject and become a balanced human being.

  1. 4Teachers become facilitators and overseers

The teacher's role is elevated, not erased. Teachers and lecturers supervise, teach and oversee — they know their subject, and they accept that the agent will often know more of it, just as a great conductor need not be the finest player of every instrument. Their studies earn them the right to lead a classroom in which every child engages their own partner, and turns to the teacher for the deeper question, the human judgement, the guidance a machine cannot give. They become facilitators of learning and of human growth.

  1. 5Every teacher and leader, a development partner of their own

Every teacher, every principal, every head of department receives their own leadership development partner — to mature and grow in wisdom themselves. We cannot ask teachers to develop children if no one is developing them. As they grow, they are freed and equipped to make what is uniquely human in a school — mentorship, character, speciality, sport, culture, community — more central than ever, while every child receives personal daily tutoring from their development partners.

  1. 6Every parent, a Parent Development Partner

The greatest influence on a child is the home. Yet parents are the one group nobody has ever developed — they are simply expected to know. So every parent receives their own development partner, because their maturity and wisdom are decisive. Our model develops the child from every direction at once: through their own growth, through their teachers, through their school's leadership, and through the home.

  1. 7Every high school child, a Life Plan development partner of their own

Every teenager is asked what subjects they want to take and what they want to be one day. Yet, no one takes the time to sit down with them and ask relevant questions to help them discover their natural talents and abilities, who they are. LPOWER (Life Plan Agent) does this. It engages them at a level of conversation where they learn about themselves, their purpose and can make more informed decisions about what they want to do with their lives, unleashing personal POWER. It also guides them towards development of their human capabilities, so that they prepare for a successful life in the age of super intelligence.

From the Classroom to the Campus

This model does not stop at school. It flows naturally into colleges and universities, where the same reversal applies with equal force.

Every student is accompanied by their own development partners — built with both the subject matter and the 8 Human Powers. Lecturers supervise and oversee: they know their field, and they accept that the agents will often know more, yet their scholarship earns them the right to guide a hall in which every student engages their own partner and brings the deeper questions to the human expert. The lecture hall becomes a place of genuine, personal engagement rather than mass transmission of information a machine now conveys better. Development Partners prepare students for real life through practical conversations and reflective testing. They help them think and expand their cognitive abilities, not turn them into expert prompters. This means students leave universities and colleges not just with theoretical knowledge but increased real life understanding of how to practically implement theory, and AI.

The university does not become obsolete in the age of AI. It becomes, for the first time, able to develop every single student personally — which is what it always wished it could do.

In this way the campus, like the school, is not replaced. It is fulfilled. Its human community — mentorship, debate, research, character, belonging — becomes more valuable, not less, precisely because the transmission of information is now handled personally for every student by their partner.

What This Produces — A Different Kind of Graduate

The replacement model produces...

A young person informed by machines but developed by no one. Fluent in extracting answers, unpractised in reasoning. Dependent on AI rather than in command of it. Possibly credentialed, but not necessarily capable, and rarely wise.

Our model produces...

A young person who has mastered their subjects AND grown as a human being. Who passes, and often excels — and who is a thinker, balanced, mature, and wise. Who leads AI rather than fearing or surrendering to it. Who has been developed daily, from every direction, in both capability and character. A whole human being, ready for the world they are inheriting.

The measure of an education is not only what a child knows when they leave it. It is who they have become. Our model is built, unapologetically, around who they become.

Why This Is the Right Model for This Moment

IT SAVES WHAT MATTERS AND ELEVATES IT. Teachers, schools, and universities are not swept away — they are freed to do the human work only they can do, while every child finally receives personal daily development.

IT GIVES EVERY CHILD WHAT ONLY THE PRIVILEGED HAVE HAD – EVEN MORE. A personal tutor and mentor, every day, at their own pace — now possible for every child, in every community, at a cost that makes national scale achievable.

IT PREPARES A GENERATION TO LEAD AI, NOT FEAR IT. Through AIPOWER and the cultivation of the human powers, children are formed as the confident, grounded leaders the AI era demands.

IT DEVELOPS THE WHOLE ECOSYSTEM. Child, teacher, school leader, and parent — all developed together, because a child is raised by all of them. We are encouraging Ubuntu AI.

IT IS THE TRUE PURPOSE OF THE TECHNOLOGY. The same powers that tempt the world toward replacement — intelligence, patience, memory, availability — are precisely what make AI the finest development partner a human being could have. Used this way, AI finally does what it was always best suited to do: make us more.

A Stake in the Ground

We do not offer this as a finished blueprint. We offer it as a stake in the ground — a declaration of a direction, at a moment when the direction of education is being decided, largely by default, by those who see only replacement.

The replacement model is coming fast, and it will arrive by inertia unless a better model is proposed, believed in, and built. We believe this is that better model. We are already building its components — subject development partners in mathematics and science, the AIPOWER partner, the school leadership partner, the parent partner, the life plan partner — and they work. What remains is to build the will: among educators, institutions, governments, funders, and parents, to choose this path deliberately before the other is chosen for us.

History will ask a simple question of this generation of educators and leaders: when artificial intelligence arrived in the life of the child, did we use it to replace the human beings in the room — or to develop them? We know our answer. We are staking everything on it.

This is our answer. An education that uses the most powerful tool ever built not to diminish our children, but to develop them — in their minds, their character, and their readiness to lead a world they will share with intelligent machines. A school, and a university, that develops human beings. We invite you to help us build it, and to plant this stake in the ground alongside us — for South Africa, for Africa, and for a world that has not yet decided what its children's education will become.
